Yellowknife Bay Paddle Tour

The best way to see Yellowknife – is from the water!

How it works:

You meet us near the water on Yellowknife Bay at noon, at the Sundog Trading Post in Old Town (4 Lessard Drive). Our experienced local guides help you to get fitted in one of our canoes or kayaks – your choice of either!

Then you’re off, paddling along the shores of Yellowknife, enjoying scenic views of the historic old town and Latham Island. You are introduced to the local history of the area, and have a chance pick up a couple paddling tips from our guide (novice paddlers are welcome!). Your canoe or kayak glides through the water as you notice colourful houseboats along your route. Perhaps you see a float air take-off or come in for a landing, it’s roaring engines adding to the vibrancy of Yellowknife Bay. It’s an easy-going paddle along protected waters, and part of your route takes you away from the hustle and bustle to explore northern wilderness.

After a chance to spot loons, or other birds, we paddle our way back to our starting location, soaking up the last of the peaceful Yellowknife Bay.

There is no better way to spend your time than a beautiful paddle in the Northwest Territories!

Duration: 3 Hours

Minimum Group Size: 2

Paddling with children? Participants must be 16 years of age, or accompanied by a parent/guardian. Generally, there are 2 paddlers per canoe. We can accommodate smaller children by having them sit in the middle of a canoe. Adults or larger children can also sit in the middle with two other paddlers if they simply want to relax and enjoy the ride! For kayaks, we can provide single kayaks.
