Jackpine Paddle is hiring a Wilderness Tour Guide Supervisor

 

Responsibilities. Coordination. Support guides to deliver our paddling services including shuttles, equipment, food, briefing materials and pre/post trip client services.

Rentals. Marketing & administration of canoe and kayak rentals.

Routes. Map preparation, route & water level research, compilation of trip reports and guide journals.

Food. Backcountry menu update & design, ordering, storage and packing.

Gear. Managing inventory, maintenance, storage, and procurement of our outdoor equipment including canoes, kayaks, trailers and vehicles. From time to time pick-ups of new orders from southern Canada and/or transportation to remote satellite bases on winter roads.

Staffing. Assist with the HR process for employees and contractors including recruitment, orientation, evaluation, and resolution of work-related problems. Assist staff orientation to our OH&S processes and documentation.

Safety. Emergency coordination, updates to the Safety Plan, insurance renewals, sat phone maintenance and management.

Partnerships. Liaise and maintain good-working relationships our partners (outdoor gear reps, NWT Tourism Association, northern communities & organizations, territorial gov’t departments, CanNor, and more).

Field Work. Based on interests, skills and availability, assignments as a guide or paddling instructor on our courses and trips across the North in the summer, mentoring & supervising less experienced staff

Education/work experience required:

College/CEGEP & 2 years work experience in outdoor adventure industry in an supervisory or instructor capacity

Skill Requirements:

  • Canoeing and kayaking experience, preferably in the Canadian North
  • Work conditions and physical capabilities:
  • Attention to detail
  • Fast-paced environment
  • Work under pressure
  • Work outside in all weather conditions

Certificates required:

  • First Aid Certificate
  • CPR Certificate
  • Wilderness First Aid (WFR)
  • Whitewater Rescue Technician
