Upgrade your Canoe Tripping Skills!

Join us on an educational, hands-on canoe tripping course in the Yellowknife area. This course is  designed for trip leaders (teachers, camp leaders, parents, self-guided paddlers) who will be leading their own canoe trip in the Northwest Territories! It’s also a good fit for those new to canoeing but keen to learn more for their own adventures! We’ll be paddling on a three-day local route. Participants are not expected to have experience but novice paddlers will also benefit from our Intro to Lake Canoe course.

This course is a chance to improve your paddling on a northern route –  but the focus is on how to properly plan, prepare for, and lead a canoe trip in the northern wilderness.

We’ll focus on camp cooking, navigation, camp set-up, risk mitigation and outdoor leadership. It’s an opportunity to learn from outdoor professionals and guides the tips and tricks of leading a group of canoeists in the remote back country.

The course consists of one in-town evening where we will prepare for the canoe trip followed by a 3-day, 2-night canoe trip in the Northwest Territories, somewhere in the Yellowknife-area. June 20 – evening session, followed by June 21-23 – canoe trip.

Inquire about custom dates for groups of 6 or more!

Canoe Tripping

We did the Canoe Tripping Course and it was great, with lots of learning opportunities, great leadership and an awesome landscape.

I will definitely recommend this company, plus it is always great to support a company who is passionate and has the local knowledge.

canoe tripping in the north

Great education for the "retail camper" to help move to the "wilderness camper" level in the Canoe Tripping Course in the Cameron River system.

Great education for the "retail camper" to help move to the "wilderness camper" level in the Canoe Tripping Course in the Cameron River system. Jackpine's competent guides covered mapping and navigation, gear review and suggestions, basic camping first aid, food prep and cleanup, leave no trace camping, canoe paddling and portaging tips, and technical water (rapids) analysis. There's a bunch more they covered, but there were many highlights in 3 days. Thanks, Jackpine!
