For rookie paddlers with big ambitions or experienced enthusiasts seeking a tune-up: we have a paddling course designed for you. Our summer 2018 program covers both introductory and intermediate levels, on moving and flat water. Consider pairing a canoe or kayak course with our whitewater rescue course. Join us for our foundational “canoeing 101” course that introduces proper technique for the core strokes you’ll need to control your canoe. Master the “J-stroke”, learn rescue skills, and get better prepared for your summer canoe adventures in this 8 hour course.

Canoe Trip Leader

Join our experienced, qualified canoe instructors on a multi-day canoe trip and tour. This 5-day course covers the skills and knowledge gained in Introduction to Lake Canoeing course, but also introduces paddlers to more challenging conditions and advanced stokes, manoeuvres, and rescues. The purpose of this course is to transform day paddlers into canoe trippers. Along the pristine lakes of the Yellowknife area, participants will gain the skills and experience to lead overnight trips of their own.

Whitewater Canoeing

This course is an introduction to the fundamental skills, knowledge, and manoeuvres of tandem whitewater canoeing. It focuses on paddling skills and safety techniques in Class 1-11 rapids, with an emphasis on boat control, and the thrill of whitewater paddling. Participants will be coached to perform eddy turns and ferries with proficiency, and be challenged with tandem whitewater manoeuvres that require teamwork and coordination between paddling partners. Above all, we’re going to have a lot of fun!

Working and playing on moving water safely means making smart decisions, becoming competent with the right gear, and understanding how to use the powerful force of moving water to your advantage. Our whitewater rescue course offers hands-on experience in a well-organized course on the Cameron and Yellowknife rivers.

Intro to Sea Kayaking

Learn and practise what you need to get out on the water safely! Our 1 day practical introductory course covers all the basics of getting onto and off the water, controlling your kayak, and recovering from a capsize. All this in a relaxed and fun environment!

Please Note

The minimum age for unaccompanied minors in our courses is 16. Participants under the age of 16 are welcome to register if joined by a parent or guardian. All courses have the following maximum participant limits:

Please complete booking online and submit payment in order to secure a spot in the course. If you are unable to attend and you can send someone in your place, no worries. Cancellations with more than 7 days notice, 75% refund. Cancellations with less than 7 days notice, 50% refund. Cancellations within 48 hours of the course cannot be refunded.
