Looking for an outdoor job in the stunning Canadian North? We are seeking enthusiastic, team-oriented and experienced paddlers who love living and working in the outdoors, and have a passion for wilderness.

You’ll be working with some of the best canoe & kayak guides and instructors in the Northwest Territories. This is an opportunity to arctic and gain new skills, certifications, and friends.

Join our qualified team of outdoor leaders and assist with:

  • Instructing Paddle Canada certified canoe & kayak courses, on flat or whitewater
  • Facilitating youth wilderness trips – across the Northwest Territories
  • Guiding on trips of a lifetime to remote and wild northern rivers

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize food, gear & logistics for canoe and kayak trips – often from 5-12 days
  • Facilitate safe & fun experiences for our campers & clients in remote wilderness settings on trips by canoe or kayak
  • Follow our Emergency Protocols and responsibilities in our Guide Manual
  • Practice low-impact land use and respect our indigenous rights and our licensing requirements
  • Provide wildlife, historical and natural interpretation
  • Create a supportive environment where our campers and clients can learn new skills and improve confidence

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Paddling experience by kayak or canoe – preferably in a professional capacity as a guide or instructor
  • Paddle Canada (or equivalent) certifications are an asset
  • Whitewater experience – particularly in a canoe – is an asset
  • Whitewater Rescue Certification is an asset
  • Advanced Wilderness First Aid certification (Wilderness First Responder preferred)
  • Must submit a criminal records check (vulnerable persons)
  • Driving Licence (must submit driver’s abstract)

THE DEETS:

  • Positions are available from May – September, but can work with your schedule/availability
  • Based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
  • Pay ranges from $18-25 per hour and 40 hours per week + tips
  • Staff will need to supply their own first aid kit as per our Guide Manual
  • Accommodation is provided, free of charge
